Before using

When deciding to use a particular medicine, it is important to weigh the risks of taking the medicine against its benefits. This is a decision for you and your doctor to make together. For this medicine, the following factors should be considered:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reactions to this or any other medicine. Also tell your healthcare provider if you have any other types of allergies, such as to food, dyes, preservatives or animals. For over-the-counter products, read the ingredients on the label or packaging carefully.

Paediatrics

Appropriate studies have not been performed on the relationship between age and the action of norfloxacin in the paediatric population. Safety and efficacy have not been established.

Geriatric

To date, appropriate studies have not shown specific problems with geriatric disease that would limit the use of norfloxacin in the elderly. However, elderly patients are more likely to have age-related cardiac or renal problems, or to develop severe tendon problems (including tendon rupture), which may require caution and dose adjustment in patients receiving norfloxacin.

Breastfeeding

There are no adequate studies in women to determine the risk to the infant when this medicine is used during breastfeeding. The potential benefits should be weighed against the potential risks before taking this medication during breastfeeding.

Drug interactions

While some medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines can be used together even though an interaction may occur. In these cases, your doctor may have to change the dose or other precautions may need to be taken. When you are taking this medicine, it is especially important to let your healthcare provider know if you are taking any of the following medicines. The following interactions have been chosen for their potential importance and may not include all of them.
